You must solve 26 puzzles to gain clues, collect pieces, and unlock new puzzles to find your way out. Locations include the living room, the basement (where you can construct seven different ghosts out of various objects found throughout the house), the dining room, the kitchen, an upstairs library, a key box, a bedroom, a bathroom, the attic, and a secret hidden room.After acquiring puzzle pieces, you plug them into the appropriately shaped sections of the rebus puzzle that eventually shows how to escape. When all pieces have been assembled, two additional games must be played, including one in the upstairs Fantastic Collections area in order to gain the key to the mystery drawer. Once the drawer is opened, objects inside must be matched, such as smoke (cotton) with the chimney or Skeleton and his lantern. Finally, a trip to the basement is required to make a ghost and find the way out.As with other I Spy games, players search for unusual objects, many of which are half-hidden or disguised in some way. The objects in I Spy: Spooky Mansion are creepy in design and festooned with eyeballs, covered in cobwebs, or just old and somehow menacing in appearance.
